Dr. McCulloch

T. Harvey McCulloch, M.D.

If you ask Harvey McCulloch, M.D. why he chose medicine, he’ll tell you the decision was easy, “While in college, I toyed with the idea of teaching chemistry, but after a couple of hot summers in a lab, not seeing any people, I decided I’d rather deal with people than test tubes,” he says. So McCulloch, a kid who grew up in the family furniture store, became the quintessential family doctor. After completing medical school at UAB and family practice residency at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, McCulloch returned home to the small town of Moulton, Alabama and established a solo practice. Moulton was the kind of place where being a family doctor meant doing everything from delivering babies to handling emergencies.

With the demands of the practice overshadowing his family life, McCulloch joined a practice 40 miles away in Jasper, Alabama. It was a move that served the family well, allowing McCulloch and his wife Cathy to raise three successful children.

After 23 years in Jasper, McCulloch’s original partners retired and an opportunity arose in Fairhope at Bay Medical Family Practice to work with an old friend and medical school classmate, Randy Hall.

Board certified in both family practice and geriatric medicine, these days, instead of delivering babies, McCulloch is focusing on helping the elderly. In addition to his practice at Bay Medical, he is medical director at the William F. Green State VA Home, The Brennity at Fairhope, The Brennity at Daphne, and Community Hospice of Baldwin County. McCulloch also teaches resident physicians at the Thomas Hospital Internal Medicine Residency program and is also a volunteer faculty member of The University of South Alabama College of Medicine and UAB School of Medicine.

In his downtime, he and Cathy enjoy fly-fishing, travel, and spending time with their four grandchildren.
